We need to learn to leverage the mass media and in particular social media to a much greater extent to think our thoughts ‘out loud’. We have a lot to learn from far right conservatives here.
and out-teach the alt right - but this starts a long time before college. how to help those working class kids who are at the mercy of right wing curricula (which are being more and more dumbed down)?
The alt-right wants to extinguish liberalism altogether. An impossible task, but they are blindered and can get pretty brutal in the attempt, as we have seen not only with the attacks on Columbia and Harvard, but also the summary termination of federal research grants to thousands and thousands of academic researchers throughout the country.
It’s critically important that we understand that their assault on free thinking and the unfettered pursuit of knowledge is ment to clear the way for a regime of a reactionary form of Christian Fundamentalism. That’s arguably the most dangerous ‘sect’ in our time.
Well, I wouldn’t go that far. There are plenty of great public school systems in many states. But it’s true that there are some states where public education is pretty abysmal. And, just like with health care access and outcomes, the worst states are almost all Red states where conservative Republicans have refused for generations to provide anything like adequate funding for basic needs and rights like decent elementary and secondary education or accessible, affordable health care, etc. It really is a shame.
