I can definitely understand why so many millions of people are anti-elite, why they are frustrated, that Democrats haven't made their lives better, etc. etc. But I cannot understand how anyone can listen to this elitist failed billionaire and think he will be the answer to their problems. Or look at the four years of his presidency and think any second of it made America great in any way.
In other words we need an up-to-date version of the New Deal. And if you think that we are going to get that from Harris and Walz, you are sadly mistaken. The economic prospects of the working and truly middle classes will not improve until they organize themselves in unions and a new social democratic party.
I get what you are saying, but I actually think that history shows that leadership matters and that many, many people will look for leaders to follow to solve big problems. There are lots of good reasons for a whole strata of our society to have grievances and to demand better from our societal priorities. The problem is that so many have fallen for a snake oil salesman who is only in this for himself. What we need is the right leadership to help bring us closer together and Harris/Walz at least is showing that they can lead us in that direction.
Harris and Walz are going to lead us to more dangerous wars in Ukraine, the Middle East, and possibly the South China Sea. They represent a continuity, the neocon road from Afghanistan to Iraq, the United States as indispensable nation.
Like Buckley someone has to sit on top of the world and yell stop.
No, I don't think that any president has that power. I'm just frustrated and angry. I lived through the sixties, and, damn, here we are again! We're probably about the same age going by the photo you posted. I also noted that you read Anti-Imperialist News. I do too, it cuts to the chase, doesn't mince words, my favorite Substack. I also recommend Aaron Mate and Drop Site news. I have a Substack, but I prefer reacting to what other people write.
I get the sentiment. I really do. But what could possibly lead one to believe that a US president or anyone else can simply “sit on top of the world and yell STOP!”? And that therefore the likes of Putin, Orban, Xi, Kim, and Trump would simply, think, “Well, why didn’t I think of that?”

I agree both that this is critical and that it will be hard. But I’m hopeful Harris and Walz will make progress in that direction!
